I trust you are well. This is a hearty little warm-up piece. 

I struggled a little with the ordering of S1. I thought something like:

Smoked turkey & black-eyed pea soup
cooks down thick, steams windows.
Six o'clock and dark out, time to taste.

Nice to see you.

Well, it's a good poem, good to read. I read the discussion above but prefer my initial take. I read it as personal, you speaking as a poet, posting and adding something to the reader's concept of the world. The philosopher's angle seems like a thin and self-serving premise. I think the upstream water movement relates to how trees take up moisture by vertical capillary action.
