Re: Art Students
Jackie, This is just speculation... Maybe, just maybe , because I've never asked one, male artists see it as 'a job', as something they do , rather than something they are . Just as some journalists will deny that they are writers. Or perhaps they simply see no difference between what they do and...

Hole in the skyline
Hole in the skyline Directly opposite the bus station there's a hole. A gap in the long familiar skyline. There used to be a pub there, a chunky two storey block of a building with many rooms. Fifty years ago it was a proper pub, two bars downstairs, an off-sales hatch, the landlord's living accom...

Re: Art Students
You raise an interesting point, Jackie. There were no males amongst the sample I saw as I walked past. There were four young men sat around a picnic table in the grounds, having what appeared to be a terribly earnest discussion about something. Because of their location I assume they were art stud...

Re: Who knows...
Indar, I must admit I saw the images moving in my head as I wrote about them. Right down to the hulking dark shape of the unimaginative security guard plodding through the corridor and checking doors. But he didn't need to be detailed. As for the 'lumpen clay' I remember watching 'Jude The Potter'...

Re: Just For Looking At
'...lost my place', for me suggested someone losing their place in life, not a physical location or even a recognised position within a family unit or social grouping. Someone who finds himself outside the circle of firelight. Not necessarily an outcast, but someone temporarily disassociated from t...

Who knows...
Who knows... What happens in a an art school when the doors are locked, and the motley crew have gone home. When the paints are capped, the brushes cleaned, the welding kit unplugged, shapeless clay lays lumpen in bins, the tape editor is blank-screened, and the textiles folded away? Do the ideas h...

Re: Art Students
I thought it might tickle your fancy, Indar. I love the concept of a 'recovering art student'. Maybe, one day, when I'm really old, I'll refer to myself as a 'recovering writer'. Doubt if I'll ever truly believe it though ;-) It's the privilege of youth - and an essential rite of passage - to red...

Art Students
Design and Media. I wandered through a rarely visited part of town today, on the way to looking for an old friend I've not seen in the best part of forty years. But she owned her own house, so there was a fair chance she'd still be there, or perhaps her children would have inherited/moved i...

Re: Cognitive Decline
Whatever the reason, best wishes, Indar. The MRI recognises brain activity, and any areas which are unresponsive. But it's not a mind -reader. It looks at the brain, the 'hardware'. It can't read the software , the inner workings of our minds. A lot of the time even we don't know what's happen...

Re: How many of you recognise yourself in this description?
Jackie, Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this. I've been a bit pre-occupied and a bit knackered as well. Nothing to worry about, just a bit of flat spell. The current 'heatwave', by English standards, doesn't physically suit me People have often told me I have two faces (the binary referen...
