The May Blossom fell early this year.
The trees were stiff with it,
white billowing clouds
outlined against the sky,
glowing in the moonlight
of a still night,
like a giant blancmange.

Spring 2019

From earth to dust spring slips into summer’s dress,
without pirouette or song. Blackbirds rap dryly
on a tightened canvas and we gaze towards the wind
for signs, premonitions of rain. Our skins tanned
and flaking, harvests, a mere suggestion, no more.

Arlene It’s amazing how little it takes to break resistance: a bubble pushes up through water’s tension, cat’s paw  propulsion of your favourite lamp, words not wholly formed rupture all love’s keen store of good will and a bullet punctures flesh at speed, sucks out all life, making lived of living ...

All the poems on this page are gems, really enjoyed each and every one of them for their skillful writing and their insights.

Sign language

 

Flaked bark,

its under- flesh crumbles

down to a drought shore

filled with foreknowledge

unheeded, drab gulls

stumble sullenly

along a scarred water line

in search of crabs.

 

The promenade is boarded up.

Defenestration

All of a sudden
wingless
he plummets like shattered glass:
his face skywards
catches sight of her
Mona Lisa smile
within the window frame.
 
So little time to wonder
how it got there and why.

Glad to see a few hardy souls marching on keeping up the good work and Poems. This is my 21, yesterday wrote 19 but meant 20, of course. Still a day behind. A man afloat on the swell whose gentle collapses appear to ease him shoreward; in reality distant forces drag him out and beyond his imaginatio...

Each burnt and broken

stone aspires

to more than death

 

Whether placed in mouths

or collapsed after fate

 

Wait long enough

mind set on blessings

 

hands will raise

doubt above earthly voices
