Silence #1
Autumn's palette
initiates a signal to fall
I sit behind glass
and will them to cling
to resist the breeze's instructions
to grip hard
and then harder
when sodden and heavy
even the rain scolds
their obdurate stance
they could stay
I know they could
but one by one
they drop silent
shouldn't their detachment make a sound
a cruel little snap
register a tiny yelp of pain
behind the glass that separates us
I sometimes wonder who's the specimen
and them
all peace and quiet
just following their paths
looking in
wondering about the strange reluctance
of all the artifacts
observing them.

Hey Colm
Atypical Colm piece in the best sense, playful, meaningful and with an easy way with words and pictures. Nicely done

Very much enjoyed Colm. Perspectives, inside/outside, invite the reader to reflect on insistence/acceptance/resistance. A rewarding and resonant read.

Maybe they do, Colm, but we are lucky enough not to hear it. Autumn would be agony if we could hear such sounds.
Lovely poem.

I've been writing ever since I realised I could. Storytelling since I started talking. Poetry however comes and goes
