Star Light Years

Post by indar » Sun Nov 11, 2018 11:19 am

Star Light Years

From the start, stars
have sent home movies.
If we could put on special glasses
with different color lenses
we would see, in light projected,
star children as they were
in their old back yards.

Here on Earth, trees record
the history of our local star
on the screen of their green leaves.
At the foot of Palomar,

by the San Luis Rey River,
under broadcasting stars,
we feed twigs, carefully, then
branches into a campfire,
release our star signals
back into the dark. There are those

who would not know
the science of things:
They miss the magic show.
We know, you and I,
trees that embody light
must be burned away
to their true nature among the stars.

As I said on Tim's star poem this was my first entrance into poetry in 2009 as a post on My Writer's Circle". His reminded me of the crazy idea that if we could go to some star and look back on earth through an impossibly strong telescope we could see the dinosaurs  :o :o
