'Thanks, Colm. In my brain, there are many ways to look at things (two, at minimum, writer & reader). I admit I'm not a conventional rules, adhering kind of guy sometimes. I write and format to the beat of my inner poet.'

You rest your case

...expecting someone to get an interpretation wrong is not an interpretation of the poem, Colm.

You don't always follow rules Tim...so what's wrong with writing something to purposely confuse?
There are several valid reasons for doing so.

But I didn't. On purpose, I mean. That's ludicrous. If I confused you, that's your own fault. ;)

Nothing wrong with (occasionally) misdirecting Tim; there's nothing ludicrous about it!
You didn't here...OK. It was just a question. Maybe I'll ask fewer in future if you're going to jump down my neck.

"They are open to so many interps I'm thinking you are expecting the reader to get them wrong."

Not a question. Again, I do not write something and "expect" someone to get it wrong. From your POV, not ludicrous...okay.  From mine, very much so.  A difference of opinion.

"I thought about this note fourteen years after Dad
had not spoken my name in three years; after mother
died a terrible death, after I used to wonder when
I could live my own life. "

--- "If I confused you, that's your own fault."

Still, a profound and troubling poem.

Hmmm. I believe it touches too close to home for me. I must let it marinate in my brain for a while.

Nonetheless, I think I like it and am  moved,

Never try for profound. Troubling, I like. Thanks.

I like it. It wrenches the heart as good writing should.

Thanks, Deb. Appreciate it. Got crucified on another site for the religious imagery.
