I have never read the book and barely remember the movie but I always was intrigued by the pushmi-pullyu and no, I don't mean "how does it poop?"
I looked it up while writing this haiku and see the animal was supposed to represent some kind of confusion. I was disappointed. I always thought it represented a kind of thesis/antithesis from which a truth is synthesized. Or opposing entities such as political parties pushing and pulling against each other until a well-litigated policy derives. That last is the probably closer to current situations.
So what do you get when a pushmi-pullyu tears apart? Two polar(ized) bears.
