For My Friend

I walk toward the river
On a path I hadn't noticed before.
A dusk breeze exhales
From the snow bound mountains
As my heavy steps crunch and snap
Old leaves and brittle branches
And a half hidden sun
Scatters orange everywhere.

A leaf lets go
Sways cradle-like
Through color and silence.
Gently, I pick it up
It reminds me of you.
Luminous
In the sleepy sun's descent.
Intricate veins map wisdom
And tenderness,
Courage and gentle acceptance
Of rigid seasons.
As tree shadows slice the ground
I walk home
With you in my hand.

A heartfelt write, spiritual and personal, which conveyed loss and continuance.

For My Friend

I walk toward the river
On a path I hadn't noticed before.........like how this sets up the context
A dusk breeze exhales
From the snow bound mountains
As my heavy steps crunch and snap
Old leaves and brittle branches............snap branches?
And a half hidden sun
Scatters orange everywhere.

A leaf lets go
Sways cradle-like
Through color and silence.
Gently, I pick it up
It reminds me of you.
Luminous
In the sleepy sun's descent.
Intricate veins map wisdom
And tenderness,
Courage and gentle acceptance....you've already used gently, tenderness is enough?
Of rigid seasons.
As tree shadows slice the ground
I walk home
With you in my hand............lovely closure

As tree shadows slice the ground

Oh yes! I am always in awe of those who say much through imagery.

Thank you all,
You're right Phil, just tenderness does it. :)
