No Muse is Bad News

Post by Dylan di Vilde » Thu Sep 05, 2019 8:30 am

Don’t think I’m ignoring you,
or I’ve flounced off in a huff.
I’ve simply dried up, my cupboard is bare,
I’ve used up the last of my stuff.

The needle is pointing to empty,
the tank is now running on fumes,
I am scraping the last of the barrel,
and a bleak, barren future now looms.

Where once I could gorge on a feast of ideas
I now offer barely a nibble.
That free-flowing fountain that gushed through my nib
has slowed to a pitiful dribble.

My mind is a desolate dustbowl,
the cracked, arid bed of an ocean,
I’ve fished out the last of whatever was there
and fashioned my very last notion.

I once was prolific, I bulged with ideas,
my cup ranneth over with verse
but now I am ravaged by famine and drought
so the poetry gets a bit terse.

I’m down to a single bleak metaphor now –
the last drop of wine in the cup.
And when that is gone I shall turn out the light –
that’s two - but the game is still up.

And when it’s all over, I’ll say my farewell
and dolefully head for the door

like a….

like a….. thingy

with a ….something something

in a something.

1st stanza made me think of a breakup.

Get that it's about writers block, but I didn't like:
"
like a….

like a….. thingy

with a ….something something

in a something."
Perhaps it's unneeded or can be replaced by something else?

Ah, Mr. Dylan di Vilde,

Tell me this is only you being playfully woeful. I always enjoy your writing.

If you're truly running out of ideas, you need a road trip or a few outings for people or critter watching.

I get the ending but my loss of words seem to manifest in mere forgetfulness.

Please keep writing. You are fun to read.
