Rescued from Oblivion

Post by Dylan di Vilde » Tue Feb 18, 2020 4:59 am

If you’re feeling a little bit low
why not purchase my poems below?
diverting and cheap
with nothing too deep
you carry them round as you go.

When going by bus or by train
you can read ‘em again and again
just put up your feet
on the opposite seat
and ignore all the jerks who complain.

By keeping the volume close by
you can use it for swatting a fly
it is lethal and keen
and will quickly wipe clean
- another good reason to buy.

It can also be placed on the floor
to firmly prop open a door.
Or by cracking the loaf
of an indolent oaf
you could gain more respect than before.

You’ll notice how carefully I’m
promoting my writing in rhyme
which works a lot better
than sending a letter
or trying to say it in mime.
Or strolling around with a bell -
Proclaiming! - to help the thing sell
or hawking my wares
at small village fairs
with a talented lady named Nell
(who’s pretending to die of TB
so they stop and take pity you see)
‘Please purchase my book,
for my daughter’s sake look’
- disgraceful I’m sure you’ll agree.

So this is a much better way -
Now I‘ve said what I wanted to say.
Just a quick cheeky note
to briefly promote
my volume of poems today.

Cute!

Should "and ignore all the who jerks who complain."
be: and ignore all the jerks who complain.

The Beats made pocket poetry books to carry/hide easily.

How would a poem prop open a door?

Geez, Dylan.  Your facility with cadence and easy rhyme is breathtaking.  There is nothing easy about anything you do, but you make versifying look simple and easy.  Reading your work over the years, I vacillate between wanting to write every day, and deciding to quit writing altogether.

In any event, I ordered your book today.

Cheers.

Poet-e,
I‘ve corrected the typo. Duh. The book props open the door -  it’s a weighty volume as it’s got every poem I wrote in it.

T,
Thanks T and keep at it.

Cheers

DdV

How did you publish it?  Self publish?

Very curious!

You can self publish on Feed a Read.com. It's a straightforward process. I previously used Lulu.com but that's a bit of a faff.

Faff?  We used LuLu when we did When the Kettle Wolf Whistles, and it had some annoying features which we worked around.

You would recommend Feed-a-Read?  Since I purchased your book, they are treating me like a new member, or long-lost cousin.  I hear from them more frequently than from my kids.  :D

I just mentioned that publication in an answer to poet-e. How long has it been since anyone even thought of that effort? WOW something in the air perhaps?

I have read this one several times and marveled again at how faultlessly the rhyme and meter carries a narrative that is fresh, often funny always entertaining along. Who but you, Dylan, can actually consistently write like this? You are the savior of rhymed and metered poetry.
