Garden Love

One of those common California lizards
on my flagstone walk
pumps itself up and down
on bent-twig front legs.

Not certain if a lady lizard
curtsies to a shy suitor
hidden in the nasturtium

or a less-than-gentlemanly fellow
insinuates the humptyhump
to a disinterested damsel.

I can see it clearly, like a David Attenborough episode of Life On Our Planet.  Whether its a lady or a gruff male, they will each get it in the end...................

Actually it's all sad...from the male's point of view; he's either a wimp or an a-hole
'curtseys'? Did your spell check not tell you 'curtsies'? Maybe it's an Americanism?

I enjoyed this. I find no sadness in nature but wonder. Likewise in the human capacity for transferring human feeling to animals: and doesn't my cat know it.
