painting of a bullet hole

splintered pane
like ice
or bone history

we stare
frozen too

so this
is what it means
to hurt

An arresting title Dave, bone history sort of scary in that it's beneath the skin, not sure what splintered pane is referencing - the eye? The concluding realisation seems to point to both the empathy of feeling hurt and the consequence of hurting someone. Eirher way there's a loss of 'innocence'  or 'ignorance' in that realisation.

best

Thanks Matty for the comments. grateful there is still someone else out there in the poetic universe.
The pane is is the window pane depicted in the painting and has a bullet hope in it. I can't remember the artist's name otherwise I would send a link. Amazing photorealist painting.

I like this Dave.
And love the 'bone history' image.
Its brevity enhances the starkness.
Did you get the sense of hurt from looking at the painting, or
some knowledge of the artist's intent?
Either way I enjoyed the read.
