Do you know what fascinates me about mercury?  The fact it was used for years, and still is, in dental fillings.

Surely anyone who has a mouthful of fillings should become a raving, or prhpas just drooling, lunatic over time.  Hat makers went mad by skin absorption from handling felt which had been prepared using mercury.  The mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland was based on a well known phenomenon.

I suppose I should count myself lucky that I damaged a nerve and had to have all my teeth out at eighteen.  I've been eating with plastic for a long time now ;-)
