The Second Coming Again

To any who care about revelations
of the earth, the ongoing lift
of eye veils, last minute saves
in the end zone, signs are everywhere:
crows fly east to west
indicating the direction,
the sun has recently set just so
over a particular rock outcrop.

It has been foretold:
all that has gone before has not
been failure to interpret
but heralding by unknown
angels among us, disguised,
scribbling cryptic notes in the margins:
now is the time, we will take up arms,
march fourth, to save ourselves.

Yes, viewing from afar, it does feel so irrational and bizarre, a religious fervour, like evolution in reverse!

Very powerful writing. The message, I think, can cut either way. Of course there are the marching sounds of the forces of evil, but this could also be read, I think, as a call to arms for the forces of light. I choose to read it that way.

I like the toss to Yeats' poem. The center held for a moment -- will it continue? The rough beast continues to plod.

What a solid POV -the voice of history, with a solemn religious nuance -- revelation as it be.

Thank you Phil and Tracy,

I didn't realize I was writing a reversible poem. Taken together, your comments represent others I have received: forces for good and evil are afoot and this write could be presenting the side of either force.

My intention was to comment on how anything can be interpreted to fit the conspiracies circulating the land inspiring otherwise inexplicable action. And as both of you have mentioned there is a religious quality to the "followers" that would almost seem all of creation might be involved. The last line was something that could be interpreted as a date or as a secret command. I dithered about the spelling March fourth or march forth. Hoped to get some comments on which is more effective.

I'd go with the quieter 'march' and the underplay of 'March' for subtext, but then in the conspiracy/Trump world something less subtle like 'March'. I dither too!
