Triolet 21

Much to learn at the Farm Store. . .
Old Men, heavy with work,
Trying to do more.
Much to learn at the Farm Store.
Old men adding to the lore. . .
How the world has gone berserk.
Much to learn at the Farm Store. . .
Old men, heavy with work.

Triolet 20

Like the man who gets up in the night
To go pee,
Who takes a left instead of a right
Like the man who gets up in the night.
It's a problem when unable to see,
He walks around holding it tight
Like the man who gets up in the night
To go pee.

Or the woman. Oh, yes. Oh, yes!

NAPO 21 - 2019

Judas

Judas,
your name echoes through the years
redolent with the scent of betrayal,
treachery, and the taint of venality,
thirty pieces of silver a timeless metaphor.

Yet if the book is to be believed
you had no free choice,
your role was predestined.

Like that of Longinus, the legionary,
his spear thrust giving respite
to a man who had suffered enough.

If there was some great plan,
some shaping of the future
rather than dark local politics,
why are you still reviled?

I've been writing ever since I realised I could.  Storytelling since I started talking.  Poetry however comes and goes  ;-)

Hello all. I am a day behind, so will post two today.

Day 20

The Nubian

In bright sun and desert sand
he had lain for eons.
But now, here, in the Egyptian Room
of the Nelson-Akins Art Museum,
he sits in cold semi-darkness,
his back to a wall.
Next to him and his companions
of the desert is a sign that reads--

DO NOT TOUCH.

The sign brings out the Eve in me.
I reach out to what is forbidden.
I look to see who's watching,
and then I touch the illicit.
The cool black basalt,
as smooth as silken black skin,
lights a sudden spark of dark desire.
I tremble. I withdraw my hand.
I sigh with regret, and move on.

Day 21

The Apology

Words melt, drip off the page,
softly land on the floor,
slide out of sight
through a crack,
as if they need to hide.

I lay a paper towel across the crack
and hope the words will come back,
so I can squeeze them out
onto the page again.

I don't want to lose
those words;

those words
that should be more substantial,
that should reveal regrets,
that should unfreeze my heart.

Vaughn - "brings out the Eve in me" - simply evocative, as is the rest of "The Nubian.

"Apology", the words melt my heart............

Vaughn the Eve poem is fabulous. I worked at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for a while and saw the allure of forbidden fruits draw more than one person into "sin".

April 21

Giver of the Bath

She taps lightly at the door,
steps inside,
acknowledges my greeting with a silent nod,
lays out the water basins, cloths, ointments, linens,
I hover, wishing I could help:
she is self-sufficient, large, strong,
well-practiced in her arts.
This ritual is between her and the body of my mother.

Her litany begins:
I am going to lift you forward,
her arms encircle, basin placed,
long white hair washed clean and wrapped.
A pour of water from the limbs:
the sacred sound of cleansing.

I am going to turn you on your side,
linens placed,
I am going to lift your legs
respectful treatment of the intimate,
ointment applied with the gravity of unction.

From the baptismal of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
at the Evangelical Lutheran church,
Wilmar, Minnesota,
to the care of the Priestess of the Bath,
cleansed against the day of final presentation,
the ministrations by this woman from a foreign land.

Each burnt and broken

stone aspires

to more than death

Whether placed in mouths

or collapsed after fate

Wait long enough

mind set on blessings

hands will raise

doubt above earthly voices

30 ways to die.
#22

Our travels towards
disembarkation
are sometimes mapped out clearly
by diagnoses, including
destination times...
a year left,
if we're lucky we might get two.

But things don't always go to plan,
especially when we forget the bigger picture.
Life has a wicked sense of humour
with endless ways to silence us,
and he loves a kicker, like
cardiac arrest
when there were six months left!

And that metallic taste in our mouths
wasn't the disease...
just a reminder
that all we were really doing
was drinking life's soup
with a fork.
