 Four & Twenty

   Four & Twenty

Throw open the shutters, roll in the grass, double the whiskey in your coffee, raise your hands to the wind!  This is the thread to load up with every thought you have or may generate, deep into the warm blackness surrounding the festival fires.   No inhibitions – make the verse!!

A four & twenty poem is NO MORE THAN four lines, and NO MORE THAN twenty words.  A biting three line Kerouac Haiku is perfect, a twistingly pristine American Sentence works as well.  A real haiku or senryu?  Yes.  And more – the form is loose enough to hold your mightiest condensed elucidations.  So get to it.  Experimental – you bet your bloomers.

[For the gray-beard refugees from MWC, you might recall that 4+20 was the most successful Poetry Challenge in the history of MWC – 147 entries.  No shit.]

The Tangled Branch Record is 18 poems posted to this topic.  This year I bet we set a new record.  Who’s in?  Everyone of course.  I bet every taker that we set a new Tangled Branch record!!

Twist on Life

They’ll never know drive-in movies
or that Elvis was more than a clock
with swinging hips
at grandma’s Summer cabin

Out House

Three o’clock got to pee
sneak out of the tent.
Hope a bear doesn’t scare
the piss out of me.

Fenn's Treasure

A difficult quest to begin
Challenged by old man, Fenn.
To find his hidden treasure
would bring me great pleasure.

            No Mierda

Mariachi shines two skirted amigas
electrifying violins, three güeyes on guitar,
a bass, yet seriously —
Jalisco magic craves the trumpet.

River Rafting Haiku

We blew up the raft
expectations high and dry
So were the sand bars

True story. :D

Tanned, from the sun I think.
But I'm old,
don't oil myself as regular as I should...
could be rust?

I'm old enough
to wear hideous vests in Summer
big underpants and permanent smiles,
never...I'll thong and snarl forever!
