My Catholic mother prays like a devil
she would...I put her through hell.
She knows which specific Saint to phone
when a favour is needed.
When she starts talking to herself
I won't get her sectioned
I'll contact the Pope
to begin the process of her canonisation.
She's old, we both are,

and I hope she prays more for herself now.

Colm I love love love  this entry. I could laugh and cry both. The above is stand-out but not by much: the whole poem so amazingly written, so filled with human foibles, love, honesty---I could go on and on.

NAPO 13 - 2019

Session Man

He has four wives.  One of his own
who loves him deeply and forever.
Plus three who are wed to others
but cheerfully 'shag the backlist'
if he's in town.

He never expects it,
but never declines either.
A man has to sleep somewhere
and a sweet tumble before,
without strings, brings peace.

He has music theory in his DNA
branded deep on every cell,
like the name in seaside rock.

He plays many instruments
in any style they ask.
All the chords,
any rhythm or tempo,
perfectly produced.

Has a secret love for the hidden notes,
accessed when he removed the frets
of his battered and stickered old Gibson,
modified as he sees fit.

In others' hands it's as responsive as a plank.
In his, an extension of his soul.

He walks like a crab, lopsided
without his guitar as ballast.
Wears out passports like socks
and avoids 'artistic differences'
with world-weary diplomacy.

He's a journeyman musician,
who never wanted to be a star
with all the hassle and hoo-ha.

And somewhere deep inside,
beneath the skill and casual competence,
a man, always slightly bemused,
just going with the flow.

Aimé

I followed the YouTube link to "Aimé Duclos - The Kitchen Table Series". But definitely a male voice there.  Some interesting stuff though.  Will go back and listen to a few more later.

Day 12

Touch someone
whose color
is not yours.

Invite him over,
share a Coors.

Hear his stories,
grieve his losses.

Celebrate his dreams.
Calm his fears.

Gyppo -- you know AJDuclos is a male, right? Another Frenchman -- Marcel's brother. Songster, lyricist. Bob Dylan once described himself a just a song 'n dance man, a set of knee-symbols away from being a one-man band. I don't know what Aimé's position on this may be. :D :D
But I know his history is music rather than the written or spoken word..

OOPS!

Was misled by lack of familiarity with French names, and by this... 'Unfortunately you get my less than deep voice - this song needs Johnny Cash, RIP
Enjoy!!!'

Sorry about the accidental gender bending, AJ.

THE EAGLE

Flies high enough
to reach the misty air
then rests his working wings
to soar weightless and free.
Silence is torn as he speaks
In an ancient language
to the blue mountains
that know the story.

He has seen many creatures
on this land,
travelers that never came back,
leaving lessons of the wise behind
and a language of the old ones.

But today
there are no echos left in the canyons
that cut through mother mountains
to wisp spirits against skin and hair
with fingertip touches of their knowledge.
They were gone too quickly
for it to be kept.

The eagle hears
his great one's voice
unfading and strong
he screeches what he learns
and cries his teaching
in a lasting language
into the misty air.
Then turns back
and swoops down
to the land of the lost travelers,
catches an easy meal
and takes it to a nest
of rare offspring.
