A group of feckless youths,
bored with life, loitering near our shops.
Swaggering with untested aggression,
making mock of those who passed.
Their leader saw me coming,
targeted my long hair and headband.
"It's like something from the bloody Bible."
And his cohort sniggered.
I smiled and ignored the bait,
but my blood ran hot.
'True enough', I thought,
'But Old Testament, not Christian.'
Samson slew a thousand men
using the jawbone of an ass.
But the ass stood before me
had no idea of his danger.

Re: If only they knew.
Youth bored with life indeed. The title does a wonderful double duty job: not only do they not have a clue about who they are dealing with but what a precious gift of life they are squandering with their attitude, their inability to connect with someone who could easily be one of the most interesting personalities they might meet. So much said in this short poem--kudos
