Eamonn

Post by Colm Roe » Wed Aug 21, 2019 7:37 pm

Unique people traverse our paths,
they swim imaginary pools
within our desert worlds.
Do strange things, sometimes
just to show us
possibilities.

But more often than not, and
tired of waiting for us to catch up,
they up their game

and wait
for us to become
unique.

Very nice set of observations, Colm.
You invite us to be more observant of those around us, especially those who are more transient acquaintances, yet subtly significant.

Thanks for not using the word "sometimes".

Cheers.

But I did?
Is it sometimes a faux pas to use sometimes in poetry?
Do I sometimes use it excessively?
Confused!

This was a quickie, posted for a friend I'm attempting to entice here  :)

Like the structural repetition of 'unique'. The word 'sometimes' has purpose in the poem since it precedes the But more often than not. The balance weights to the latter.

good 'quickie' Colm

Like the contrasting images "imaginary pools" and "desert worlds." What makes unique people unique?

Thanks poet-e.
We are all unique...but some people are more unique than others :)

I like this Colm. It makes me think of you.

Why shouldn't it? You are indeed a unique writer. Who else in the world of poetry can write one fascinating poem after another about death during NaPoWriMo?  I know of only one and that is you.

This reminds me of one of my favorite jokes:

How do you catch a unique rabbit?

Unique up on it.

How do you catch a domestic rabbit?

The tame way.
