Dear Jenny,
You will be amused to hear Richard loves your little dog
more than I do, he orders steak and eggs when we eat breakfast out
that dog gets the steak
I still wear many clothes you insisted
I take. I keep the sequined shirt folded in my dresser drawer
you turned heads when you wore it to the Ordway performance of Carmen
remember
we all agreed we'd do that kind of thing more often.
Grandma fell on her hundred-second birthday
as were you at the end
she is bedridden, seldom wakes
but sometimes she speaks your name as if you are in the room--
I hope you are, I hope you approve
of last promises I kept
I am sorry
I live so far from the sons you had to leave behind.

Re: Dear Jenny
Hi Indar,
I read the dear Jenny correspondence as one to a deceased. Therefore more of a diary entry? Therefore the lack of punctuation? There's humanity in looking after the dog so indulgently, the clothing connection, and the inability to keep 'promises' in regard to the children.

This is so sweet and touching Linda; the lightness/sadness of it is reflected in the music I'm actually listening to as I write this.

Re: Dear Jenny
Colm and Mark, thank you,
I'm so happy to see your posts on TTB. Youv'e both been gone too long.
Thank you as well Phil, I've received a few comments lately about my overuse of commas so now I guess I've overcompensated.

Re: Dear Jenny
Indar this is such a heartrending piece. The N speaks matter of factly, as there is no alternative, nothing else left. I think it is therapeutic to speak directly to the departed, and your Narrator so effectively gets to the heart of it all. The notion of last promises -- wow.

Re: Dear Jenny
Very touching. Jenny is a relative/friend?
No punctuation made it confusing, altho I do it sometimes too.
Should this be flipped?:
"as were you at the end
she is bedridden, seldom wakes"

Re: Dear Jenny
I have been reading your poems recently although it may not have appeared so and while not all them have been gems they have been human and bravely political. This shows you are hard to beat for poetic storytelling.
