Re: My wife has twisted her ankle

I rather like this.  For me it paints a gentle word picture of the meandering half-awake morning thoughts we've probably all known at times.  I'm happy with it at this surface level, rather than delving too deeply for hidden meanings. I've no idea if Phil deliberately planted little landmines of pot...

Re: Q&A

It was down for a few days, but eventually word reached the site owner and now it's back in action.

Re: Sounds

Mark, when reading it aloud I find a natural pause after 'blood', which is why I have a comma there.  But I can see how others might read or deliver it differently. Cutlass ;-)  Although it didn't belong in our time period for the shows I asked our armourer to make me a cutlass, thinking he'd enjoy ...

Re: currency

Dave, you've captured the homeless well. The 'bubbling blue exclamation marks' on dry skin' is particularly evocative.  Personally I'd rather see the simmering rage than the soul-dead empty-eyed apathy displayed by some.  There's still hope for the ones with a quiet rage in their eyes. I like the co...

Re: Sounds

Phil. There is indeed something satisfying about leaving a dent in the armour of some pretentious poseur ;-)  Others take great delight in collecting the visible reminders of battle. Some re-enactors see it as an English' martial art', others see it as a fashion show.  And some of the 'Dark Ages' cr...

Re: Torc

I'm intrigued by the 'braid of runes across her neck'.

Is this jewellery, the 'torc' of the title,  a tattoo, or hair falling into a random but seemingly significant pattern?  My imagination sees all three and can't decide ;-)

Re: I Think My Baby Sister Might be a Painter

I rather enjoyed this.

Your baby sister may indeed be a painter, and your words paint a vivid picture of her output.  The dishwasher plays the role of the unfeeling critic ;-)

Sounds

Hello, Strangers.  Been busy for a while. Saw two kids playing with plastic swords today and it triggered a brief memory. Sounds The clang of steel against steel, thudding blows against shields, grunts of expelled breath, in response to body-strikes. The occasional blood, or an unplanned concussion ...
