News Media
‘News should act like the fourth branch of government, keeping the others in check.’
- A political science professor.

Right wing.  Left wing.
Propaganda.

Repeat reports of fuming buildings, bodies jumping.
Weapons of mass destruction.  Blind nationalism.

“No need to buy masks for this virus.
But if you do, buy the right one.”  Store shelves emptied.

What happened to the news covering
Dogs attacking water hosed students;
Uncovering hate.

Mass media/
mass hysteria.

Timely.

Not sure of the tense change in S.3

Tough times, tough poem to get right.

Thanks for posting.

I read the text of the poem in contrast to the leading quote from a poli-sci professor. I believe the intent of this write is to remark on the hyperbolic, bombastic, repetitive nature of much of media reporting :D . But how else get the attention of US?

I wonder what happened to those volcanos in Hawaii did they ever stop? what about the earthquake in the Phillipines last year? How are things in Puerto Rico? Days on end its all we hear until the next thing.

One thing that strikes me about your poem is the change in "category" of events. The virus is something I'm hoping will NOT pit us against one anther in the end. It is an enemy common to all peoples world-wide.

It's an early rough draft, written before the virus got so scary here--we're on lock down. Perhaps poem needs to be more tactful?

A news station keeps saying "Facts, not fear." So I wanna incorporate that... maybe as the title.

How's life by you?

I'm taking the social distancing very seriously. Good thing Poetry Month is coming up it'll distract me
