Thank you all for the feedback on this one. I am particularly taken with the comparison to Stafford's poem. Long ago I read analysis of it by two schools of thought; those who declared that there was no way the fawn could still be alive in the body of the doe that had grown stiff and cold. The other side declared that, while that might be a fact, it didn't matter. I'm on the side of those whose argument validates my feeling that poetry is truth even if it's not factual.

Nicely reported and observed poetry. Enjoyed the the simple earthiness of the piece.
